Stair Sainty Gallery
STAIR SAINTY Gallery was founded by Guy Stair Sainty in New York, in 1982. The gallery specializes in French, Italian and Spanish Old Masters and French paintings from 1800-1900, but also handles exceptional examples of 19th and 20th century painting and sculpture.
The gallery has organized numerous specialist exhibitions over the years, including: The Macchiaioli and Three Italian Friends of the Impressionists, New York, 1984; First Painters of the King, French Royal Taste from Louis XIV to the Revolution, New York Stair Sainty Matthiesen Gallery, New Orleans Museum of Art, Columbus Museum of Art, 1985-86; Francois Boucher: His Circle and Influence New York, Stair Sainty Matthiesen Gallery, 1987. Romance and Chivalry: Literature and History Reflected in Early 19th century French Painting, New Orleans Museum of Art, New York Stair Sainty Matthiesen Inc, and Cincinnati Taft Museum 1996-97; An Eye on Nature, Spanish Still Life Painting from Sanchez Cotán to Goya, New York 1997-98; and An Eye on Nature II, A Gallic Prospect, French Landscape Painting from 1785-1900, New York 1999-2000.
The gallery is a member of the Syndicat National des Antiquaires, and in addition to exhibiting at The European Fine Art Fair, Maastricht, has also shown at the Palm Beach International Fine Art Fair, the Moscow Fine Art Fair, and the Biennale des Antiquaires, Paris. The gallery’s exhibitions have continued on to the New Orleans Museum of Art and the Taft Museum, Cincinnati. After many years at 22 East 80th Street, NY, NY, the gallery’s exhibition space is now a 19th century townhouse at 38 Dover Street, London.
Stair Sainty has sold works of art to more than 65 museums and institutions in North America, Europe, Australia and Japan, and has also advised international collectors who have sought the gallery out directly or been recommended by the many US museum curators with whom we maintains close and friendly relations.
